Snooze 1.0 Readme by Adam Jarret adam@adamjarret.com http://www.adamjarret.com ======================== Introduction ======================== Snooze is an alarm clock application for Mac OS X and iTunes. The advantage of this particular alarm clock application is that the program does not have to be constantly running in the background, draining system resources. Instead, this application takes advantage of a system utility called cron that came with your Mac. Snooze utilizes classes from the fantastic and free Aqua front-end to cron called Cronnix to read and write data from cron tabs under the hood. You only have to run Snooze to set the alarm time and choose which playlist to start playing in iTunes. After the alarm is set, simply quit the program and rest assured that the playlist will begin playing at the specified time. To ensure the application will have the desired functionality, be sure to: * CHOOSE A PLAYLIST THAT IS NOT EMPTY * ADJUST AND TEST THE SPEAKER VOLUME * LEAVE THE COMPUTER RUNNING ======================== Installation ======================== Drag the application into your Applications folder. ======================== Setting the Alarm ======================== To set the alarm, simply click the "Set Alarm" button in the toolbar. Alternately you can press and hold the Apple (command) key and press the comma (,) key to being up the "Set Alarm" dialog box. The "Set Alarm" dialog box allows you to choose a alarm time and an iTunes playlist to be played at that time. The OK button will apply the settings and set the alarm, the Cancel button leaves your settings as they were. ======================== Clearing the Alarm ======================== To disable the alarm, simply click the "Clear Alarm" button in the toolbar. Alternately you can press and hold the Apple (command) key and press the "D" key to clear the alarm. You will see the "Alarm not set" message on the main window once the alarm is disabled. ======================== Uninstalling Snooze ======================== To uninstall Snooze, drag the application from the Applications to the Trash. NOTE: Those wishing to discontinue use should remember to clear the alarm before uninstalling the application. Because Snooze uses cron to trigger the alarms, AN ALARM SET BY SNOOZE WILL CONTINUE TO TRIGGER EVEN IF SNOOZE IS REMOVED FROM THE SYSTEM.
